A misaligned bite - or malocclusion - can present several problems. Teeth that are not properly aligned can lead to uneven bite tension, excessive tooth wear, and neuromuscular dentistry issues such as TMJ. Malocclusion can also detract from the appearance of your smile, interfere with speaking abilities, and even impact dietary choices.
Treating malocclusion is important, but most adults find the idea of traditional braces unbecoming. The cosmetic dentists at our office completely understand reservations about traditional braces and are pleased to offer Invisalign®, the most popular adult orthodontic option available today.
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign uses a series of clear plastic aligner trays to gently move your teeth into their optimal position. These trays are customized to address your specific needs and designed to maximize comfort while shortening treatment time.
During your treatment period, you will return to our office every few weeks for your next set of aligner trays. When worn as directed, these trays can straighten your smile in as few as 6 to 12 months, even when used for more advanced malocclusion. Some cases may require more time, and sometimes less time than 6 to 12 months.
Invisalign trays offer a number of advantages over traditional braces including:
- No interference with dental hygiene and teeth cleaning
- No interference with eating
- No damage or irritation of sensitive oral tissue
- Virtually invisible
- Shorter treatment period
Because your trays can be removed, they are more hygienic and will not require dietary restrictions. These benefits alone make Invisalign a superior option for many of our patients.
Invisalign is a wonderful solution for addressing moderate to severe malocclusion. If you have crooked teeth without significant malocclusion, instant orthodontics with porcelain veneers may be a better option. This will be based on your unique needs and is best determined by one of our experienced cosmetic dentists.
During your initial consultation we will examine your teeth, gums, and jaw, answer any Invisalign questions you may have, and help you determine the most effective way to straighten your smile. Our dentist will let you know if he believes you're a good candidate for Invisalign.
