What are porcelain veneers?

Porcelain dental veneers are incredibly thin shells of ceramic material that can be placed over the front of your natural teeth to correct a number of cosmetic imperfections. Also known as “instant orthodontics,” porcelain veneers are an ideal way to quickly and effectively address some of the most common cosmetic dental problems.

What can dental veneers correct?

Our Boston-area cosmetic dentists use porcelain veneers to correct issues with the surface of teeth such as chips, cracks, and discoloration. Porcelain veneers can also be sized and shaped to address issues such as gaps, irregular tooth sizes, crooked presentation, and crowding.

Each dental veneer procedure is customized to meet the specific needs of the smile it is perfecting. Our cosmetic dentists will work with you individually, placing veneers on those teeth that require this particular service and making sure your results meet your smile goals.

How long does it take to place dental veneers?

Porcelain veneers are placed over two office visits. During your first visit your teeth will be prepared and an impression of your teeth taken. Your custom veneers will be created to our exact specifications. During this time you will wear temporary veneers placed at your first visit.

When you return to our comfortable office for your second visit, we will place your custom made veneers.

How long do dental veneers last?

Porcelain veneers can last for many years when cared for properly. One of the benefits of porcelain is its ability to resist staining, which can help your veneers remain bright and beautiful for a number of years.

However, to keep your veneers beautiful, you will need to maintain a good daily oral hygiene routine and continue to visit our office for regular cleanings and examinations.

Am I a good candidate for dental veneers?

To be a good porcelain veneers candidate, you will need to have one or more cosmetic issues detracting from your smile. You should also be free of certain dental health issues such as gum disease and TMJ.

During your initial consultation with one of our cosmetic dentists we will provide a comprehensive examination of your teeth and gums, discuss all of your options, and help you determine if porcelain veneers are right for you.
