Porcelain veneers are one of the fastest and most effective ways to address a number of common cosmetic dental problems. Veneers can be placed on one or more teeth to correct issues such as:
- Gaps and uneven spacing
- Crooked positioning
- Irregular shapes and sizes
- Chips and cracks
- Stains and discoloration
During your initial consultation with one of our Medford cosmetic dentists it can be determined if you are a good candidate for porcelain veneers and the many ways they can be used to improve your smile.
The Porcelain Veneer Process
The placement of porcelain veneers is minimally invasive and painless. During your visit, Ryan M. Clancy, DMD, MAGD, LVIF will prepare your teeth by removing a small amount of your natural enamel. Although veneers are wafer-thin, the removal of a small amount of enamel is necessary to ensure they fit seamlessly into your smile. Abrading the enamel should not be painful, and we may use a local anesthetic to reduce any discomfort you may feel.
Once your teeth have been prepared, an impression will be made of your smile and you will be fitted with temporary veneers. The impression will be used to make your customized porcelain veneers, in the shape and color planned for by both you and the dentist.
Then, one of our cosmetic dentists will remove your temporary veneers and place those that have been tailor-made for your smile. Before your new veneers are affixed we will fit and adjust them to ensure a flawless final aesthetic.
Caring for Your Veneers
Porcelain is incredibly strong and stain resistant, but to ensure the longest lasting results possible, you will need to take proper care of them. It is important that you brush your teeth after every meal and floss at least once a day. Try to avoid using an abrasive toothpaste as even minor abrasion can scratch veneers. You should also plan on visiting our office regularly for dental hygiene and cleaning visits. These visits will give us an opportunity to clean and polish your veneers and to ensure they remain in proper working condition.
During your initial consultation at our comfortable office, we will be happy to answer any dental veneer questions you may have and help you determine if this cosmetic option is ideally suited to meet your needs.
