Thoughts from Dr. Clancy: Time
In my opinion, there is nothing more powerful or precious than time. Time once past cannot be brought back by any means and it is important to understand the value of time. There goes a proverb, “Time and tide wait for none.” Having a wife, four children and a dental practice, time is on my mind every day.
I long ago had a vision of the ideal work/family balance. I have constantly worked and trained towards finding that balance. I believe that a team who understands the importance of time will work together in an efficient manner. Fortunately, my team shares the same values of family. We all believe that the more efficiently we act as a team, the more time we will have left over for family and friends.
Many of you have remarked to me how great our team works together, and I agree with all of you. For 3 years we have been closing the office every 8 weeks for two days of training. It is during these trainings that we learn new techniques, incorporate new technology, review challenging cases, improve efficiency and focus on every detail.
Each morning we review the day’s schedule, and collectively we plan for the expected and the unexpected. Being on time, and being aware of what time it is, ensures that we will not run late for our day’s appointments. This is very important to our team because we want to treat others with politeness and respect. Your time is valuable, just like ours is, and we should not waste it. I look forward to seeing all of you early for your next visit at Cosmetic & Esthetic Dentistry.
The Perfect Smile for Your Big Day
The leaves are changing colors, making a gorgeous backdrop for a fall wedding. Brides and grooms everywhere are making preparations for their big day, which can include hair, makeup, dress, tux, and of course teeth. Photographers will be on hand capturing every moment, friends and family will be all together, and you want to make sure your smile is as radiant and beautiful as your environment.
If your teeth are stained, chipped, cracked, crooked, or have other minor cosmetic issues, it can cause embarrassment and self-consciousness. In addition, you may not want to have your photo taken, or you may modulate your smile so that it is reserved and close-mouthed.
On your wedding day, though, you want to smile enthusiastically to convey your love and joy, and you want that smile captured by photographers so that you can look back on these memories in the future.
Dr. Clancy can help you obtain a beautiful, bright smile with porcelain veneers. Veneers are a solution for even, white, straight teeth that will last through your wedding day and well beyond.
Some benefits of porcelain veneers include:
- Durable and long-lasting
- Does not require dental surgery
- Painless procedure
- Easy to care for
Porcelain veneers require a few office visits, as they are custom-made to match the rest of your teeth and fit comfortably. If you are thinking about porcelain veneers for your wedding day, make sure to book your initial consultation well in advance.
If you’ve procrastinated on dental work and now don’t have a lot of time before the big day, there are other cosmetic procedures that take less time than veneers. These solutions are not as long lasting, but they can be great options if you need a quick fix. These can include:
If your only concern with your teeth is that they are discolored, then a simple teeth whitening procedure may be all you need. Teeth whitening is performed in-office in one visit, and can lighten teeth up to ten shades. Professional teeth whitening is much more effective and safer than over the counter at-home options.
If you have minor chips and cracks, or want to lessen a gap between teeth, then dental bonding may be a good solution. Bonding does not last as long as veneers, but it can be performed in one office visit and can create cosmetically beautiful teeth.

Featured Employee Story: Danielle H.
I have been asked many times about how I came to the decision to follow through with my full mouth rehabilitation experience, especially as a dental hygienist. Why would I choose to change my entire mouth when I have a great smile? A lot of people would consider full mouth rehabilitation mostly for cosmetic reasons, but mine were related to symptoms and pain that I was having that I didn’t realize were related to my bite.
About one year ago, I started getting earaches, and along with that came jaw pain and clicking. I waited months before I decided to have my jaw symptoms addressed, in hopes that the pain would subside without any treatment. I had also sought out other ear, nose, and throat doctors, thinking that they would have the solution to my recent symptoms, but they came up with nothing.
During my consultation,Dr. Clancy’s team took impressions for models and hooked me up to a diagnostic machine that measures how my muscles are firing, so Dr. Clancy could study my bite to find an answer for me. When I returned for my follow-up appointment, he presented the models of my teeth. To my surprise, I had severe wearing on the lower teeth and an overbite that was causing my teeth to chip.
As a hygienist, I was learning a lot about malocclusion/bite correction, so I decided to correct my bite. I wanted to do this in order to get rid of the jaw pain and the wearing without having to get braces. So for six weeks, I wore an orthotic appliance that placed my bite in the correct position, and then I had 28 crowns placed. I was amazed at how quickly my jaw clicking disappeared and my smile was expanded.
I had teeth I could live with before, but now I have a big and perfect smile. And the best of all, people can’t tell I had my teeth done until they ask me what’s different!
